Epictia undecimstriata

Range: central Bolivia, Santa Cruz de la Sierra

 

The Eleven-striped blind snake is a virtually unknown species, lost to history and apparently poor record-keeping (the holotype being the only collection and has vanished). Described in 1839, this species is potentially relatively large at up to 34 cm, with alternating light and dark stripes along its back and a paler belly. Unfortunately no other specific information could be uncovered or translated.

 

Habitat: Unknown.

 

Prey: unknown, likely small soft-bodied invertebrates.

 

Lifespan and reproduction: lifespan unknown, likely under 10 years. Opviparous.
