A southern desert seepage species, this columbine is found in the Chihuahuan and Sonoran deserts north to southern Colorado, growing in places where moisture creeps out of the ground on canyon walls. Plants may reach around a foot tall, with bushy heavily lobed leaves that are topped with significantly taller stalks bearing one to several relatively large, uniformly pale to golden yellow flowers with long spurs. Cold hardy to at least zone 5, and ideal for placing in a shadier position in the yard in moist but well-drained soil.
