The second Slipper Flower species offered here, this is very different from tomentosa. A rosette rather than scrambling vine plant, it forms ground-hugging bundles of bumpy, fuzzy deep green leaves up to 6 inches across, and in summer throws up skinny little stalks topped in numerous brilliant yellow, sometimes red-dotted interior blooms that look like balloons or hollowed out slippers. A short-lived perennial, it is reported to be cold-hardy to zone 5, though if lost to freezing is easy enough to restart from seed which needs no special treatment. Plants like moist but well-drained soil, and tend to like slightly shadier cooler corners in the yard. Packets contain approx. 50+ seeds each.
