The Yellow or Water Flag is an iris species native to northern Africa, Europe, and west Asia, developing clumps of sword-shaped leaves up to 18 inches tall that crowd around water courses and seepages. In spring stalks just taller than the leaves become decked out with large lemon-yellow to goldenrod blooms etched with details in red or brown. A very easy species to grow, it is cold hardy to around zone 7 but should be treated with caution in warmer wetter regions as in such climate it can become invasive. Best kept as a large container plant to avoid escape, and seedpods prevented or removed as soon as they dry to avoid accidental escapes. Please check your local regulations before acquiring.
