An east-coast native iris that grows in a generally dwarf habit, this plant develops flat leaf clusters only to around 6 inches or so tall and spreads underground via thin rhizomes to form loose colonies. Early spring sees flowers that often jsut barely rise above the soil, spreading to around 4 inches across and colored in some of the most vibrant shades of lavender in the stands and falls, offset by fluorescent orange central patches surrounded in white and darker violet. One bloom is shocking; a whole pot in bloom can be a showstopper. Can be grown fairly easily as a companion with Sarracenia.
Available plants are rhizome divisions between 2-6 inches long, with leaves up to about 4 inches tall.
