A giant among the pitcher plants that hardly needs introduction, this species makes distinctly broad, peltate leaves that can be over 2 feet in length, with long tendrils tipped in pitchers that are capable of exceeding 15 inches long and nearly half as wide, with broad scalloped peristomes and gigantic vaulted lids all shaded in deep reds and maroon hues. A somewhat difficult species to maintain, requiring broad pots with loose soils and very strictly cool highland conditions, and fairly slow-growing as well...but with huge payoff once established.
Two rooted basals available, between 1.5-2" in diameter (shown in second image).
