A highly vigorous but relatively compact plant with a unique appearance; rather than vining (though if trimmed heavily and staked it might be encouraged to climb), this plant likes to throw its energy into numerous basal shoots that produce many fairly long-lasting, tubby ovular traps up to 5 inches tall at least. Pitchers are slightly mottled but almost uniformly grape-purple on the exterior and nearly matching but lighter inside, and they have a slightly flared peristome decked out in stripes of various shades from dark yellow to cherry, sometimes aging to almost solid red. As this plant has rarely climbed for me I've yet to see true uppers, so their appearance is still a mystery. Does well in a wide variety of conditions, though most vigorous in intermediate temperatures and moderate humidity.
Available plants are rooted cuttings with rosettes approx. 3-5 inches in diameter.
