Variable in color though best known for the attractive serrate-purple leaved versions, Opalescent Basil is a classic ornamental and edible herb, growing to nearly 18 inches tall. Some variants may turn out greenish with purple hints and smaller serrated leaves, or some may sprout and grow up as massive deep purple plants that are perfect for colored syrups and drink concoctions. Flower spikes are nearly always at least purple-blushed, with white or light pink blooms. Somewhat floral in aroma, this species does hold more of the classic basil profile.
