Readily established in moist to moderately dry locations, Hooker's or Tall Evening Primrose lives up to its latter name, with spikes of rich green leaves reaching sometimes to nearly 4 feet tall (given right conditions some have even been reported to nearly 10 feet), at the tops of which are racemes of large buds that break open each evening as the sun sets to reveal lemon-yellow, 4-inch wide four-petaled blooms. Plants are usually biennial, acting as massive 2 foot ground rosettes their first year and bolting to bloom the second, though in some cases may be short-lived perennials with multiple bloom seasons, particularly in warmer locations.
