The quintessential Passionflower with edible fruits, this southern South American species develops scrambling branching vines that when left unchecked can reach dozens of feet in length (though can usually betrimmed and trained around a smaller trellis), bearing large glossy leaves of varying shapes from ovular to trilobed and grasping tendrils with each. Mature plants with good light and fertilizer can continuously produce dozens of large up to 3 inch blooms, bearing white tepals topped by purple-based white filaments that ring the reproductive parts in the center. Plants are typically self-fertile, and these ones descended from the cultivar 'Frederick' will produce 2 inch round purple fruits with an orange-yellow, sweet-citrusy flavored seedy pulp (seeds are also edible though crunchy). Will not tolerate frost, dying back to the roots under light freezes and completely lost below 25 degrees F, so strictly tropical.
Available plants are seedlings approx. 2-5 inches tall, with several leaves.
