The "low beardtongue" is a western US native plant and fairly hardy once established, fully cold-tolerant and does well in moderately dry, sandy conditions (especially if summers happen to remain cooler). Rosettes up to a foot across of large oblong leaves tend to hug the ground, hence its common name, before in late spring giving rise to 1-2 foot spikes of large tubular flowers that can be many shades of pinkish violet, indigo, or electric blue. Seeds require a 1-3 month cold stratification to germinate.
Extremely limited, only 2 packs of approx. 25-30 seeds available.
