The Salmonberry is a spectacular and highly sought after native plant from the Pacific Northwest, developing into sometimes gigantic spreading bushes that can be over 12 feet tall and 30 feet across (or heavily pruned to be more manageable) with spiny branches and ridged, serrated pointy leaves similar to other species in the blackberry genus. Huge pink flowers precede large raspberry-like berries that ripen from yellowish through shades of orange, pink, and red and will pull away from their core like a raspberry when mature. Different reports claim that they may be capable of self-pollinating if assisted, or require cross-pollination between two plants. Hardy to zone 5, prefers moist locations.
