Commonly known as Jewels of Opar or Fameflower, this US native annual is a fast-growing, ornamental, and EDIBLE plant. Thick reddish stems sport bright yellow-green succulent leaves that both make a great low growing cover as well as a mild salad addition, before each rosette sends up one to several spikes with tiny hot pink flowers at the tips of long stalks, eventually giving way to little red or yellow seedpods that look like many floating gems above the vegetation. Easy to germinate and loves part shade and mild weather.
